The modern town
The Revolving Bridge, the only physical link between the Island and the new town, is almost the symbol of Taranto. Extending over the navigable channel, it joins the two parties of town. The silent bridge looks at all the navy units that rich the Navy berths trough the channel. The tree-lined sea front, facing the Great Sea, has always been object of pride for Taranto. During the different moments of day it offers a spectacle that is a strong attraction for tourists. From the circular terrace we can see the Government's Palace built in the fascist epoch. From the other side of the town, the one turning to the Little Sea, the scene is even more fascinating. From Roma street the view runs far away to the profile of the typical land extending around the little town of Martina Franca, the Murge. After a short way, we get to Peripato's gardens, an ancient beautiful park formerly attached to the sixteenth monastery of Saint Antonio.
Another great example of contemporary art is the Resurrected Jesus' mosaic in the church of saint Antonio, finished
in the first years of 1980th by Ferruccio Farrazzi. However, a trip around the town would show us many other important
historical documents like the Triglio waterworks, still well kept. But before leaving, it should be better to make a
break for savouring the delicious cuisine of this land where the fish and the seafood are of incomparable quality.
